Phillip Rogers

Algebra I
Algebra IIBefore joining St. Joseph High School, I spent 20 years teaching math and statistics at Weber State University while also working in the business world. I also spent some time teaching math and coaching basketball at East Carbon High School (Closed in 2005) . My passion for teaching began early in life; I viewed my teachers as heroes who provided crucial support during challenging times, inspiring my own desire to become an educator.
I grew up in Kearns, Utah, in a traditional family as the second youngest of five siblings. My father worked as a pipe fitter at Kennecott, and my mother was a nurse. In high school, I pursued a wide range of interests, including sports (with dreams of becoming a professional basketball or tennis player), outdoor activities (camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking), music (playing piano and trumpet), woodworking, and mathematics. I was proud to achieve milestones such as earning the Eagle Scout award, excelling academically (graduating third in my class), lettering in music and tennis, and receiving the K Crest award for outstanding service.
After high school, I explored various fields through college, studying engineering, business, mathematics, and computer science. This journey led me to earn an Associate degree in computer science and a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Weber State University, followed by a Master’s degree in Statistics from University of Utah.
Among my most cherished accomplishments after high school are: 1) My 28-year marriage and raising a daughter, 2) Receiving the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver award for outstanding service and leadership, 3) Opportunity to teach at Weber State University, helping students achieve success, 4) Opportunity to share my musical talents through piano and organ.
In life, I aspire to be remembered as a disciple of Jesus Christ, a dedicated husband and father, and someone who influenced others, like yourselves, to achieve their dreams, much as my teachers did for me.
